Happy to be in Oulainen!


Oulainen is a lively, young and friendly town, located in the southern part of the Oulu province and a part of the Ylivieska sub-region.

The town’s traffic connections are great. Highway 86 and the railway go through the town. The distance to the airport in Oulu is less than 100 km.

The Pyhäjoki River flows through the town centre, along which well cared shores the numerous services are located. In the town centre, everything is within walking distance.

Oulainen was established in 1865, It became a township in 1967, and was changed into a town in 1977. Oulainen has 8000 inhabitants. The surface area of the town is 568 km2. There are about 3500 work places.

The Oulainen town coat of arms was designed by the artist Ahti Hammar in 1953, “a crayfish on the lawn”. Explanation of coat of arms: A golden crayfish on a green field.
